Everyone wants to look their best, and skin products can help you to do that. Unfortunately, so many beauty products contain all kinds of ingredients that just aren’t conducive to good health, and I believe they actually can keep you from looking your best. Many conventional products contain petroleum-based ingredients, and others may use plants that are grown conventionally with pesticides and other chemicals. How can that be healthy?

Lip products have always presented a conundrum for me. Like all of us girls, I want pretty lips, but most lipsticks and glosses contain petroleum-based ingredients, which can break down collagen over time. Since your lips are part of your skin, collagen is essential for keeping them plump and youthful looking. Not only that, but given the proximity of my lips to the rest of my mouth, ingesting a little bit of the product I use on them is a given. There is no way I want to swallow petroleum or other toxins, even to keep my lips looking pretty.

That’s why I was so thrilled to stumble on Sally B’s B Glossy Lip Gloss. I discovered the gloss when I was dong a film in Atlanta. It was in a gift bag they gave to the actors in the film, who often ask me to try products to see what I think. It turns out that this stuff is absolutely amazing – it’s almost become a daily obsession for me. It comes in four gorgeous colors: Ruby’s Red, Copper Penny, Every Blond’s Pink, and Primrose. Not only are the colors pretty, but this lip gloss moisturizes my lips, as well. My favorite color is Ruby Red, which I use almost daily. I also really like the Copper Penny.

The lip gloss comes in liquid form with a wand. The cost is $18 for a 7-gram wand, which will last you quite a while, even with daily use. It contains organic, natural ingredients including organic beeswax, vitamin E, organic castor oil, organic shea butter, organic carnauba wax, organic lecithin, micas, and organic essential oil of peppermint. A full 95 percent of the ingredients are organic, and they contain no chemical preservatives or artificial colors that will diminish your natural beauty.

Sally B’s has a whole line of “Skin Yummies” utilizing organic, natural, and wild-crafted ingredients that are non-toxic, gentle, and paraben-free.

Check it out here www.sallybskinyummies.com. Some of her other products I adore  are her Shea Butter Bars and Solid Perfumes, which are non-toxic, and which I like to put on before/after yoga class.

I also love the Antioxidant Skin Boost, which is pure powdered vitamin C and resveratrol that you mix into your cream or serum for maximum anti-aging efficacy. Who can’t use the brightening boost? I love it. I also really love her Get Even Finishing Powder, which is one of the best mineral makeup powders I have ever used. Her Sugar Scrub is absolutely fantastic as well!

Don’t miss out on these non-toxic, wonderful products which I truly love and personally use.

I have been enjoying the recipes from your book. I like your natural approach on everything we put in our body. As far as our skin, do you recommend home made facial lotions? This particular recipe call for milk or half and half, lavender water and honey.
    Thank you!

I love your blog, recommendations and emails and love sally B’s, thank you for that coupon! I also appreciate your other readers because thanks to them I discovered the ewg as a trusted resource for non toxic safe products. I have always had severe sensitivities, like my body new before I did that something was unsafe and i reacted. That being said, i sampled several brands via the database 4 safe cosmetics and I must say that despite not being familiar the reviews on other sites led me to sevani skin care and it is the first brand I can use on face/throat and around eyes I did not react to. I thought I would share it here as so many asked your opinion on products and while not one product is for everyone, having always had SUCH easily reddened skin or fearing chemicals I researched this brand high and low and the company is ran by only licensed specialists that do free consults. I have never been so impressed. What i read on the other places was true. If you have not tried them you should, you can tell they were meticulously created and they REALLY work, plus non toxic. If only they made a body product other then organic argan oil, i prefer a cream personally but may give it a go based on all your posts on great oils. :) Love this site and all the fans. It’s a great community. Thanks to you and your advice I have a vita-mix and the best beauty products ever! Keep the news coming.

    Hey,
I was wondering what you thought about the skin repair brand Suuthe. They have lotions and lip products, they claim natural…. Is it really good though?
    Thanks

    Hi Kimberly,

What do you think about the SK-ii Brand of skin care products that promote the ingredient pitera? Is this brand toxic or alright to use?

    Hi Kimberley,

I have noticed little fine lines above my lip recently and its a little annoying since I was never a smoker and very healthy. I am in my early thirties and don’t really have any other wrinkles anywhere else! I was wondering if there is any product your would recommend to help diminish fine lines above the lips.

I bought your book a week ago read the whole thing in an afternoon and have been following your Beauty Diet for a week and I feel amazing. THANK YOU!

    Helloooooo :-)

I’ve just joined this site and started reading your book! I love it!
Are there any body lotions that you recommend? I’ve looked at a handful of coconut oil lotions at organic stores but none are pure oil.
    Thanks :-)

    Hi Kimberly,

I am a longtime reader, first time commenting. I love your skin care tips and even tried Sally B’s Lip Gloss and love it.

I am wondering if you can help me with a skin care product I recently heard about.

I had a close friend recently tell me about an Exfoliating Glove that seems to work really well. However, I’m looking for more advice as to whether or not it works as well as they say.

Apart from what we usually look for in skin care products (chemical free skin care) this product lists a multitude of other benefits that don’t seem to be related to the skin…. or are they? More research needs to be done. I have spoken a friendly staff member and she told me, with conviction, that this product does everything listed but only with prolonged use. Then the cynic in me called back & spoke to a male staff member this guy had me sold. He even uses it and claims it works so well that it is the very reason why he now works for the company.

Apparently this product has been around for thousands of years & it is very cheap to purchase and that has me wondering; why don’t we all use it? & Why don’t we all know about it? Well I suppose we live in a society that has somewhat lured us away from nature itself.

The immediate gratification however is what I’m more interested in. They promise that it gives smooth skin instantly after the first use and it’s chemical free. I must admit, my friends skin looks & feels amazing and ever since she has been using this exfoliating glove, she has been telling us all about it. Is this my calling? Is this the product we have all been waiting for? Maybe, but everyone’s skin is different and what works for my friend may not work for me. I will need more advice from the pro’s before I go ahead.

Can someone look into this for me and give some feedback? I’m hoping there is an outsider that has used this product that can shed some light on this. The product can be found here: http://www.desoie.com.au

Question for Kimberly – you mentioned that petroleum-based products break down collagen over time buuut I’ve been using vaseline to moisturize under my eyes for years. I find it soothing and protective, especially in the winter. I also thought it was a good alternative to regular under eye treatments (it’s so hard to find a good one). So, does that mean I should chuck it?

    Hi Kimberly-

I was wondering if you have tried Eufora products? I wanted to know if they were as organic as they seem? :)

I am obsessed with the beautifying serum! it can be used on skin and hair. But all there products are great!

Are these a good beauty choice?

    Hi Kimberly,

I have my suspicions that my niece’s ADHD-type issues are related to a possible candida infection. Have you known this to be a common cause of ADHD? Also, where does one go to get tested for candida? (NY area)

    Thanks,

      Thanks Emmy,
I am doing a Candida blog very soon. As I mention in The Beauty Detox Solution, the best “test” can be to eliminate all the Candida foods and see if the symptoms alleviate.
Candida can definitely aggravate mental issues and create issues with concentration. Stay tuned!

    Hi Kimberly,

I live in Switzerland and love your blog. I’ve been studying the “alternative healer” focusing on nutrition and orthomolecular medicine. I had to detox for 2 weeks and I felt so good like never before. :-) I love your recipes :-)
I have a problem with my swollen eyes every morning. Only the lower lids are swollen. I’ve been drinking warm water with lemon since months, really checking what I have for dinner, sleep enough, and it is not better. Can you help me? Any ideas what to do.
    Thank you so much.
    Love

    Hello Kimberly!

I had a question about Young coconuts. I live in Washington and went to a health/organic food store near my house but they didn’t have young coconuts I asked the produce manager if they could order them but he said he couldn’t because by the time they get them they have mold on them. I told him that I have found young coconuts at the Asian markets in town and he told me that they are most likely sprayed with Formaldehyde to prevent it from browning and molding.. are these safe to eat??

    thanks so much!

What are your thoughts on jojoba oil for you skin, particularly your face? Also, is the brand Superfoods a good facial brand?

I have a lot of redness in my face and I am looking for a good brand of facial creams and make up.

    Thanks!

    Hey Kimberly!
Love your blog and have been enjoying the green smoothies and recipes on here. I ordered your book and it actually comes tomorrow! Good post about skincare. I love hearing about new brands that fit the high standard of being natural or organic. Have you used their cleansers? I’m looking for a good one right now.

    Hi Kim,
I think it would be fantastic if you could write a blog about increasing iron in your diet using vegetarian methods and reccomended supplements. I have had low iron levels all my life and have almost given up on the idea of being able to have a glow to my skin (I’m sick of looking so pale!).
You lightly mentioned it in your book, but I would love your thoughts and reccomendations on the topic as you are the epitomy of health!

I’m vegetarian and I use a cast iron pan. You can get one for only $20 or so, and cooking with it increases the iron in your food. Make sure it’s not enameled or anything, though. Hope this helps!

Hi Asha – I too live in Australia and the best products that I have found for skin and hair care, makeup etc is made by Nancy Evans who lives in Tweed Heads NSW. Check out her website – http://www.rosehipskincare.com. Every product has a full list of ingredients – I think the products are good enough to eat!!

I hope this has been helpful.

    Hi Kim,

I have had a candida infection on my right thumb nail for over a year now. Do you have any recommendations on what I could do, not do, take and kind of diet I could go on to starve the candida. I really hate it and always cover it up when I go out in public. I don’t like taking over the counter or prescription drugs, i’d prefer a holistic and more natural treatment. I know you are not an MD, but I feel that your knowledge as far as health and well being is far superior.

    Thanks,
    Mario

        Hi Kimberly!

I recently ordered your book but I was wondering what you thought was the best daily suncreen/face moisturizer. I just realized that my labeled “natural” face moisturizer/suncreen is actually not natural. I tend to ‘mark up’ when I don’t use a sun screen. Any suggestions?
