Proper Travel Snacks :)

Hello Guys!

So I am back in New York now. I got pulled back by a formal event that I had to attend, pictured here. It was fun, and now I am starting to get myself back into my busy life, with the many different hats I wear! It takes me a minute when I’ve been away to get back in…

But it has gotten right back to busy again! So last night and this morning I was running around and getting ready for an assignment I had: Make travel food for a big celebrity (who I happen to love!! FYI) and the 10 people that were traveling with her.

I was sure to pack some fruit- apples that I prewashed! And some bananas, as well as some celery and carrot sticks, with various dips and spreads. I always emphasize to them to get some water-containing foods in the body first, which are alkaline. If you only eat concentrated food (non water-containing), especially when you are traveling, you can backed up and thrown off! So always make it part of the plan!

I made my famous grain-free, gluten-free granola in my dehydrator, which is always a crowd-pleaser and always handy on the road, to be eaten after the produce. And these sprouted sandwiches with 2 different spreads and avocados, which are to be eaten before the granola also!

Okay I’ll write more soon as I get settled!!!!

Lots of love,

Kimberly

    Hey Kim!
I was wondering if you had a recipe available for your homemade granola. I have been looking for something that I can take on the road with me and I love granola. Thanks so much. Also, do you have any advice for some with acne issues? I have moderate acne that I am really trying to get rid of. Your the best :)

    Hi Kimberly,

I love you’re great suggestions, advice and book! Thank you for everything you do and bring to this world!!!

I’m concerned about security when flying with fruits and veggies. Have you had any problems with airport security confiscating your food?

    Thanks again for everything!!!

Thanks Melissa for reaching out to me! No, I’ve never had a problem. I carry tons of food all the time. I just got back from Puerto Rico this morning in fact. I had cut up pineapple, sprouts, cut up oranges and bananas with me, and I brought them in the airport, and ate them the whole journey!

That’s right. We should nourish the body with healthy foods from fruits and vegetables. By this way, we help our body system to become strong to combat disease and health problems. I like those apples and veggies.

Even in our busy life, we still need to be healthy for we cannot do anything on our goals if we are sick. Eating Alkaline still the best choice for everyone for it helps prevent the body from disease and illness. It will boost one’s health and helps our health recovery too.

    sorry it was submitted early.
I am starting with a week long “cleanse.” Nothing too drastic. I just basically plan to eat like a vegan you could say. I’ll be doing the green smoothie (which I have been doing anyway), and just eating fruits and veggies (sometimes steamed), using spices, but just no dairy (no mayo, milk cheese, etc,) no oils, no means of course. So that dip looks delish, and I’d love to try it.

Also, that meal above with the raw white corn, sprouts, and kale looks delish! Did you cook that kale? It looks cooked and delish, but I know it probably wasn’t. Any tips so greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

      Hi Melanie!
The best dip to start with is the raw hummus recipe which I posted!

Also, the kale dish you speak of is Dharma’s kale salad, with corn and sunflower sprouts added. I never cook kale!! Be sure to read that post for tips on “tenderizing” the kale. I have that for dinner several times a week!
Keep in touch and let me know how you do!

    Hello Kim.

I have a question. Is it safe to drink the detox smoothie if one is trying to get rid of candida? I know some nutritionists recommend staying away from fruit.

    Thanks.

      Hi Lola!
If you have candida it would be best to “starve” the yeast of all sugars, including fruit, for at least a month. There are some products like Candex I think it is called, that you may want to check out also. I hope you are taking probiotics!
When your body is back in balance, then you can enjoy fruit again.

Just since I saw you on GMA I have lost 20 lbs. The green smoothies are so filling and yummy. The best news is that this daily dose of health creates a psychological barrier. The desire for starch, ill prepared (fried) foods and sweets has disappeared.Just10 more pounds to go and this 60 year old will be back to my 40 year weight. Thanks heaps.

      THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
And keep up the amazing progress!!

Hi Kim, welcome back! I was wondering what you think of the many detox and colon cleansing products that are sold. Do you think any of them are effective or have you tried any? I’m really interested in colon cleansing and I was looking at some products on the internet like Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit and Colonix by Dr. Natura. I thought if I could find a good product, it would make it easier for me. Or would you say the best way to cleanse the colon is with a colonic? Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

      Hi Christi,
NO! I do not advocate any of those products. Colonix is senna-based, which is an irritant/laxative to the bowel. It is okay to use when you are traveling once in a great while for an emergency, but not repeatedly, and it is not a cleanse. Anything you ingest orally will move newer matter that is in the middle of the bowel, by way of irritating the lining of the colon and expelling out what can move. To get to older, keeper stuff you really have to get come colonics. Plus I am very suspicious of some of those other herbs that are included as well.
The next best option to a colonic would be an enema kit, which you can get and do at home yourself!
Let me know how you do.

    Hey Kim,
I have been looking in on another raw foodist her name is Karyn Calabrese. She’s really interesting and has been raw for something like 30 something years (she around 61 and looks great). She also runs a raw food restaurant and runs a detox clinic. Check her out and let me know what u think.

      Hey Elisa!
No, you can make flax crackers and bread-like products in your dehydrator, if you have one, but the sprouted bread can usually be found in the freezer section of a health store. It is not raw, but it way easier to digest than other breads, and is best when toasted to break it down even more. :)

Thanks Kim! I went on a mini vaca for long weekend and was impressed with myself that i brought a cooler of food: chard, spinach, avocados and beans. I did green smoothies! I tried your papaya enzyme salad. Liked the bitter/sweet dynamic but wasn’t really a fan of the soft texture. But going to try your lime bars next!

Thanks again for all the tips. I was watching a “healthy” commercial for a popular brand of protein bars and because of your blog I questioned it’s healthiness, so i looked up the ingredients…corn syrup…soy protein isolates…sounded very processed..Do you think you could do a post on the prevalence of corn and soy in our food? What exactly are soy protein isolates?

: ) lovely as always Kim!

      Hi Kat!
Yay, that is wonderful that you brought your own foods! It is so important to be prepared. :)

I comment on soy protein isolates in my blog “Looking Past the Numbers….” from a few weeks ago. Horrible!!

Hi Kimberly, I always notice that you have such beautiful thick and shiny hair. What tips/advice can you give me as a vegan? I hate to admit it but in a former life (about 10 years ago) when I was on a high protein/low carb diet I had beautifully thick hair but lately I’m noticed that my hair falls out easily in the shower and on my brush (sorry, too much information?)

      Hi Elle!
Thank you! :) It didn’t always use to be so healthy…As a vegan, be sure you are eating mostly mineralized foods. That means that you should be having lots of salads, Green Smoothies, fruit- alkaline foods. There are still a lot of acidic vegan foods- muffins, all those bread products, vegan cookies. And have you gotten any colonics? All these means are to shift your body to more alkalinity, and when you are more alkaline you will have beautiful hair. When we are acidic or backed up in our systems our life force isn’t going to expend the energy we want it to on making our hair beautiful! The huge addition to greens in my diet is when I really noticed my hair change.
      Hope this helps!
Let me know how you do.
