Green Smoothie Recipe

download-2

Making the smoothie for the cast on set at a movie trailer. :)

Hey Guys,

So I got tons of requests for the recipe I made this morning on Good Morning America. Here it goes!

1 ½ cups of water
1 head romaine
4 stalks celery
1/3 bunch cilantro
1/3 bunch parsley
Juice of ½ a lemon
2 apples
2 pears
1 banana*

•    Blend until smooth**, starting with the greens and moving into the fruits. This makes 4 full cups of the Green Smoothie (which tastes best when served very cold), so is enough for two people for 2 days, or for one person for 3 days. Try to drink at least 16-24 ounces a day, if not more! Stir before you drink!

•    Feel free to mix your greens and fruits, as greens and fruits food combine well together (except for melons). Be sure to balance the light and darker greens, so for instance, if you want to add some kale, be sure to balance with the lighter green of celery. Bill the anchor today, mentioned he didn’t like cilantro. No problem! Just leave it out and use another green instead, or up the quantities of the other greens.

•    * If you are diabetic and prefer to cut out all high glycemic fruit, you can omit the banana.  Otherwise, I suggest keeping it in, as it adds a nice consistency and taste.

•    ** It is important to blend until all “chunks” are removed from the mixture. There are a lot of nutrients encased into the cell walls of the green plants, and these need to be ruptured so full nutrition is available upon consumption without much digestive work. If you don’t have a great blender, you may have to blend longer and the smoothie will get warm. In that case, be sure to make it the night before, so it will be nice and cool by breakfast time!

I’m so happy all my new friends found my blog through GMA! Please keep coming to visit, and please explore other parts of the blog, and please pass along to your friends! :) I usually post 2-3 times a week with new recipes, food tips for wellness, etc. And please visit my OTHER SITE, which is for Envision Beauty, my skincare company, which I run besides being a nutritionist and yoga instructor. SKIN is our largest organ, and 70% of what we put on our skin ends up absorbed into our bloodstream…and therefore our liver! So I’ve designed our paraben-free, mineral-oil free all in one moisturizer, The Solution, to be all the nutrition your skin needs to stay healthy, firm, and youthful. You have to do both: eat right and use the right products! The Solution is used by such celebs as Kristen Bell, Sophia Bush, Anjelica Huston, Jane Alexander, Patrick Swayze, etc. etc. and on the sets of movies like Iron Man 2 and Transformers 2. Check out our amazing super moisturizer The Solution HERE.

Stay tuned for our new (joined) website launching in about a month or so.

Take care and great health!!

  1. I obtained your recipe for the Smoothie Skin Facial. The recipe says to tun all the ingredients through a juicer. I do not have a juicer, so I’m not sure how a juicer works. Can I use my blender? Thanks so much.

    Lisa

P.S. I had my 1st green smoothie this morning. Excited to see the how I feel in a couple of weeks!

    • Hi Lisa!
Great! Focus on the Green Smoothie since you don’t have a juicer. You’ll have great results from that. :)
      xx Kimberly

  2. Kimberly I was wondering what diet you would recommend while nursing. I am also trying to workout a hour a day. I really want to get healthy. My mom passed unexpected/tragically and I want to be healthy for my two little girls and be around for as long as I can. Please give me suggestions.

    • Hi Samantha,
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. My heart goes out to you! Thank God you are blessed with your little bundles of joy, and that you can direct your love and energy into taking care of them. I am sure you are an amazing mother!

Since you are nursing, I must say that you should check with your doctor before making any dietary changes, and to see what he/she recommends. But I will say that the Green Smoothie is packed with phytonutrients and minerals, and is very alkaline- all of which is amazing and would help make your body, and therefore possibly your milk, extremely healthy. There are lots of suggestions in my blog on healthy eating if you nose around, on such topics as healthy fats like Acai and avocados, etc., but again be sure to check with our doctor. Also, have you tried yoga? I think it would be great for you as well, especially a form of yoga that focuses on your breath (pranayama). That way, your body will be more oxygenated, and you will gain all over strength. I think walking in the fresh air and getting a bit of sunlight would be really refreshing for you, and you could take the girls in their strollers! Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing, and if you have any other specific questions.
With love and sending you peace!
      xx Kimberly

  3. Kimberly,

Thank you again for a great blog. How long do you blend the green smoothie for? I have a vitamix and the motor was starting to smell and it is still not blended well :(

Do we keep adding more than the required water? I have already added 1 extra cup and feel like that is diluting it? Maybe not?

  4. I’m wanting to try your Green Smoothie to detox myself. I would it be beneficial if I has anxiety and depression?

    • Hi Jessica,
When your body is alkaline and balanced is will help your mind become so also! When we are very acidic (too much meat, dairy, caffeine, etc.) it can contribute to anxiety and depression. The body and mind are intricately connected!
Also Omega 3 fats (walnuts, acai, hemp seeds, etc.) are good for depression. :)
Let me know how you do!
      xx Kimberly

  5. Heeelloo!!

So i was wondering, would it be a good idea to mix different red berries into the green smoothie?? ( blend it) because every day i drink a mix berry/banana/orangejuice/yogurt smoothie!! and i thought what about mix the green ingredients with the ingredients i use now???

Or would it taste bad, or would i not get all the needed green stuff in my body within the one glass???

loool sorry for being so confusing!!! thanks so much for all the great tips! x x x x

  6. Hi Kimberly,
I’m trying to figure out if my blender is blending as smooth as it should. I’m willing to get a Vitamix, but want to make sure I need it. When I drink my smoothie, it almost feels more natural to chew it a bit. Is it possible to get the smoothie truly smooth?

    Thanks!
    Luci

  7. Hi Kimberly,

I saw that you mentioned you take probiotics. Is that every day and also are there any particular ones you recommend? Btw, getting my Vitamix tomorrow, so excited! Is it occasionally alright to drink some of the Green Smoothie as dinner? I think since it makes a few servings, it’d be a great dinner that is already ready…thx! -Eraina

  8. Hi Kim!

I got a Vitamix for me birthday last week and made my first green smoothie this morning. It is SOOOO delish! But how do I store the rest of it for later? And how long will it keep in the fridge?

Thanks so much for all of your inspiration!

    Summer Gamble

    • Hey Summer!
You can store it for up to 3 days, thought it is probably best to keep it for about 2. Be sure to cover airtight!
Yay!!!! I’m so glad you like it. :)
      xx Kimberly

  9. Hi Kimberly,

Do you drink green smoothies even in the winter? Do you adjust your diet at all for the colder season?

    Thanks,
    Carley

    • Hi Carley-
Yes, green drinks all year ’round! In the colder season, I definitely make adjustments. I have more cooked food, like 10-15% of my diet for about the 3-4 coldest months in NY. For cooked food, it is still absolutely vegan, but high quality grains like millet and quinoa with my salad, or clear vegetable soups or miso soup. I also have a lot more tea! I also have some sweet potatoes or yams with my salad for dinner sometimes. It is important to adjust!
      xx Kimberly

  10. Hey Kim,
I recently made the Green Smoothie. I noticed only the celery in it. It was kinda over powering. I like celery but it was a little too much. I couldn’t even finish the smoothie. I am wondering if there is a good substitute for the celery. The summer green smoothie was good though.

    • Hey Samantha!
You don’t have to use celery if you don’t like it! Stick to the greens you like that will make you want to keep drinking the Green Smoothie. You could try kale, cucumber, red leaf lettuce instead! :)
      xx Kimberly

  11. Hi Kimberly, I love the green smoothie. I am to the point where I crave it now. Two things; 1., Can I mix some ground flax seed in it? And 2., this may just be me but I noticed some incidental weight loss(3 lbs. over two weeks), which was a pleasant surprise. Is this a possible side effect?

    • Hi Trish,
Weight loss is a sure sign of detoxification and cleansing, which is what the Green Smoothie is all about!
If you want, you can for sure put the ground flax seed in the smoothie, but it will make it a heavier meal. Seeds take about 3 hours in the stomach to digest. You can probably eat a lighter lunch if you do that- or hold off to eat again for longer.
Let me know how you do!
      xx Kimberly

  12. Hi Kim,

Tried the green smoothie this morning. Loved it! I read about it on a blog for relaxed hair health. How long before I notice improvements to my hair, skin, and nails? Do you know how many servings of fruits and vegetables in 16oz of green smoothie? What do you think of replacing the 1 1/2 cups of water with green tea?

    Thanks,

    Billie

    • Hi Billie!

It depends on the state of health and alkalinity your body was currently in when you started drinking the Green Smoothie, and what the rest of your diet is/was like. Usually people start seeing improvements fairly quickly, like in a few weeks!
I don’t recommend putting green tea in the smoothie! Tea is full of tannins, and is acidic and has caffeine. It will acidify the pure vegetables and fruits – and the whole goal is to become more alkaline. So save the tea for having it on its own- and at least 30 minutes away from the Green Smoothie. :)
      Come visit again!
      xx Kimberly

  13. Thank you so much Kimberly for all your help & guidance. I did start the daily good probiotic. I had it but wasn’t taking it daily – so now am.

Overall, I had pretty much cut out most sugar – as having educated myself I now understand so much more of the vicious influx of sugar in so many of our American foods. So, when I read what you posted I thought it would be okay & that it would be easy but then I had such a difficult time – I would almost make it then I would have “just one little artificially sweetened thing” like crystal light (I know). I just couldn’t understand why I was having such a difficult time.

I talked to my doc (founder of an advance way of thinking center) about it and she recommended glucosupreme herbal & chromium to help curb the cravings.

Anywhoo, I just tried those goji’s and then fell in love with the goldenberry – so I really had to buy that one! Kind of expensive but these may be the ones that finally turn me on to this way of life….or at least keep me on it steady””ish. 

I feel so honored that I have found you and you are so generous that your sharing your knowledge. I believe you are going to make it big, big, big. You are really to explode. And I think the US is more into accepting these “new” views. As for me, I have been giving raving views & have written out the green smoothie recipe many times now plus have emailed those wonderful macaroons recipe!!!!

    Hugs xxx & smile :)

    • Hi Hortencia!
It is great to hear from you and all your kind, sweet words! Thank you for your support! Please pass the blog on to all your friends so they can be part of our community. :)

Yes, sugar is a big deal in our country especially, as it is snuck into everything! Did I talk to you about the Stevia? It is a great sweetener alternative and has no affect on the blood sugar levels. Chromium is also great as it helps us metabolize sugar much more efficiently. Cinnamon and parsley would be good foods for you to bring into your diet for that same reason.

The probiotic will also start to help with any yeast overgrowths, and that will also keep sugar in check. The yeasts love to live off sugar, so if you start to transition away they will cry out it the form of intense cravings, “Feed me!” “Feeeeeed me!” As you continue to cleanse, just remember that you won’t feel like this all the time, it will get better!

Keep in touch on how you do.
      Lots of love,
      Kimberly

  14. Kim, I have tried the green smoothie for a week now and have developed a rash. It started in the fold of my arms and has spread up and down my arms, a little on my stomach and a little on my legs. Could this be from the smoothie?

    • Hi Lillian,
Wow, I would definitely recommend seeing a doctor! I have no idea what could be causing that.
The Green Smoothie can stimulate a strong cleansing response in people, and they go to the bathroom a lot, or have to eat something afterwards as they feel lightheaded- all cleansing responses- but I’ve never heard of a rash!
So please go check it out and let me know how you do.
All my very best and take care,
      Kimberly

  15. Hi Kimberly –
Nice piece on GMA this morning 8/9.
Quick comment only on this post, though…When you say you “Love deserts”, it refers to the sandy, barren landscape…I think you mean “desserts”, with two esses…
Thought you might want to know. ;)
Thanks for a nice blog site – Have a good week,

  16. Hi Kim,

I picked up all the ingredients to make my first Green Smoothie, I am very excited about it. I have recently did a lifestyle change by incorporating more veggies, more workouts and trying to be more peaceful. My question is with all the veggies I am buying for the Smoothie and to eat, how can I keep my vegetables and fruit as best and as long as possible? Thank you so much and keep inspiring…Eraina

    • Hi Eraina,
That is wonderful about your lifestyle changes! As for being more peaceful, check out my blog, “The Easiest Weight Loss Tip Ever” about breathing. Breathing slowly, deeply and through the nose is essential to keeping the mind even and peaceful, and it is a very worthwhile practice for you to incorporate along with your other positive changes!

Keep your veggies covered in plastic bags or reuseable zip lock bags, to avoid wilting by too much contact with the air. Keep your fruits in the fridge, except for the bananas! If you have a farmer’s market nearby, it is just awesome right now! Only wash them until right before using.
      Keep in touch!
      All my very best,
      Kimberly

  17. Ok good stuuf but where would I get other recipes to accompoish the same thing for variety?

    • Hello,

I tried the green smoothie and I was pleasantly surprised that I actually liked it. My question is do you have the nutritional information on this specific blend?

      Thanks ~ Sue

      • Did you get the information on the Nutritional Facts?

      • I didn’t get the nutritional information. Can you post it?

        Thanks, Sue

    • Hey Dave–
The variety comes from mixing up the greens and fruits. You can make wildly different tastes- even adding tomato as the fruit if you are a savory guy, using spinach, etc.
The goal is to get a ton of greens into the diet, blended and predigested, with some fruit to balance.
      xx Kimberly

  18. Hello Kimberly

Have been using the smoothie since I saw you on ABC. Love it although the celery is not fully dissolved.

Would you believe I feel so much better during the day and is not even eating as much.

Can I use regular veggies sometimes if I don’t have the organic ones?

    Thanks

    • Hi Kim! One week on the Green Smoothie .
I love the flavor and have not had coffee all week.
I feel great and truly “cleansed”… thank you so much!

      question:
My friend want to try but can’t quite get used to the taste, would apple juice and/or water would be OK to use?

      • HI Marie!
That is so great that you are getting great results on the Green Smoothie already!! :)

I’m not really sure about your friend’s question about the apple juice or water— there is water and apples in the smoothie itself. Do you mean add more?? Or do them on their own? Apple juice, unless freshly squeezed, is pasteurized and has been heated, so no more enzymes. The greens are the key to the whole drink, as they are injecting chlorophyll, oxygen, and tons of nutrients right into your system.
Let me know if I didn’t answer your question though- and keep in touch with me about your progress!
        xx Kimberly

    • Hi Em,
Yes, I would believe it that you feel great and have so much energy!!! :)

And yes, if you don’t have access to organic veggies use the regular ones- just soak them for a while if you can and/or wash them really, really well.
Keep in touch with me about your progress!
      Love, Kimberly

  19. Hi Kim–

I didn’t see the interview on GMA, but I do see all of these great questions pouring in, so you clearly made a big impression–congrats on reaching so many people. Obviously you struck a nerve with a lot of people!
On the topic of green smoothies, I was doing really well for a while, and found that my body didn’t even want coffee in the morning. Then I fell off the bandwagon and noticed my coffee intake creeping back up. Since there’s no caffine in the greens, what’s that about? I really enjoyed not feeling addicted to coffee (I mean, like I would be jonesing in the shower to get out and gulp some down–that bad), so I’m trying to get back to green drinks in the morning first thing. But why does it “negate” coffee addiction–or is it just me?

Thank you so much, and have a beautiful day,

    Morgan

    • Hi Morgan,
No! It is not just you!! There is so much alkalinity in the greens, that are “predigested” because they are blended, that your body will not have to work hard to derive the nutrition.
You will get “woken” up by the alkalinity, and have a ton of energy as all those minerals come rushing in.
It is very common to stop drinking coffee once you have the Green Smoothie, and many people have written that to me! It is a major effect.
We can stop using all those processed stimulants the more greens we have. :)

Hope all else is well and come visit me again soon!
      Love, Kimberly

  20. Hello,

My co-worker & I saw you on GMA and I’ve been studying your website! :)

We are wondering if you prefer to use a blender or a juicer for the Green Smoothie. We are very motivated and cannot wait to make this smoothie!

Thanks for your awesome website! You are very informative!!

    • Hey Angela,
yay, that is awesome that you guys can check out the blog at work. :) And make some healthy shifts!

In the beginning I recommend the average person to start the Green Smoothie. There is a lot of fiber in it, which more people generally need, and it is a bit easier since most people have a blender. Also, it is way more filling and closer to food, so it can be a better meal replacement to start, and that helps people cut down on their volume of food, which will increase their alkalinity and weight loss efforts.
If someone is in a very alkaline state right now- then they could choose to make a green juice instead if they prefer, but I can’t know that unless I know your health background!
See what seems intuitively best for you.
Let me know how you guys do!!
      Love, Kimberly

  21. I would like to know if you for the whole bunch of green in the blender for just the leaves? I make this and ended up with 6 cups. What did I do wrong? Please get back to me. I looked for an email address and couldn’t find one.

    • Hi Chris,
You would put the whole bunch of leaves in there. Different romaine heads are different sizes, so if you want to make a bit less just cut back on the leaves a bit.
Be sure to drink at least 16 ounces a day!
Let me know how you do.
      xx Kimberly

  22. After I saw you on GMA, I started drinking green smoothies. It’s delisious!! My BF loves it, too! Thank you for inspiring me.

    • Hi mi,

Rock on, that’s awesome you love The Green Smoothie!
By the sounds of your email, you are a yogi too.
Om Shanti! And come visit again.
      Love, Kimberly

  23. Hi Kimberly! This blog got me thinking….have you done any blogs on food combinations that are helpful/hurtful to the body? I am interested in learning more about that topic!
p.s. I just discovered Peacefood Cafe on 82nd and Amsterdam – they make a lovely Brazil Nut Milk Chai Tea!

  24. Kimberly,

I made a batch and love it – but I have a question. Can I add silken tofu for protein or is there something I can add for that?

    Kat

    • HI Kat,
If you want to add protein, you can, but it will make it more thick!

If you can handle it my friend, go for it! Protein powders are good in the beginning to add more weight and make us more full. As you get lighter and more clean, you’ll see that you need them less and less.

I am NOT a fan of soy products. They are processed, genetically modified, and mess with our protein absorption and hormones. If you want to use protein, try Raw Hemp protein, which you can get at Wholefoods or the healthfood store. I like Ruth’s and the Nutiva brands!

      xx Kimberly

  25. i have been drinking the drink and I am slowly starting to like it s much better! and its so filling so I love drinking it for breakfast because I’m not really a breakfast person.

I have been very interested in your raw diet and want to know how to get started eating raw and what a raw diet can do for you on a daily bases and its long term effect? I am already a vegetarian and a vegan a few times a week but i keep hearing you rave about eating raw so I am very interested. If you could help me out that would be amazing thank you so much!

  26. i have been drinking this every morning and I’m starting to really like it, its one of those drinks hats new so it can take getting use to! but I’m really liking it now!

I have some other questions though like what a raw diet is and how do you start a raw diet? I am already a vegetarian and i do go vegan a couple days a week but I’m really curious about eating raw and what that can do for you on a daily bases.

    • Hi Karabear,

It’s best to ease into raw slowly.

Start with the first meal of the day being raw. It should be the Green Smoothie, or some fruit, or if you have sugar problems, you can make it an avocado or even some raw veggies!
I’m not sure if you eat a lot of soy in your diet? But if you do, as you transition into raw and cut out soy, you will see bloat and puffiness go down, energy go up, your skin get better and feel very calm.
Now there are unhealthy ways to eat raw also- all those dehydrated burgers and things– those should be in moderation, but not the main foods!
There is a lot to explain, which hopefully I will in my upcoming book. :)
      Come visit again!

  27. Kimberly,

I’m very interested in trying the Green Smoothie and the Detox Smoothie. I see you also have the Ultimate Smoothie. Can you tell me the best way of taking these smoothies. I would like to taking the Green Smoothie daily and the Detox Smoothie at least 3x a week as you recommended. When should I drink these.

What the different between the Green Smoothie vs Ultimate Smoothie. Should I alternate the smoothies or stick to one only.

Can you please also recommend a colonic in Chicago.

    Thx

    • Hey Carmen,
Definitely the Green Smoothie should be eaten every day. Make the Green Smoothie recipe that I posted recently- it is updated and tastes even better!

That is the most important, because the greens are alkaline and healing. Drink this as the first meal of the day, when you start to get really hungry and need food.

The detox smoothie can be drank even just once a day. First meal or first thing in the morning. These are both morning drinks, and because of the fruit, should NEVER be eaten after cooked food!
For colonics- don’t know a place in Chicago, but ask and make sure they are Gravity centered colonics!
      Come visit again!

  28. I would like to second Jan’s question regarding digestion issues. I would love to try this recipe, but would like to prepare myself for any possible “side effects.”

    Maybe I’ll try 1/2 recipe on a Saturday morning when I don’t have to work… hum….
    xo Tricia

  29. Hi Kimberly,
Also saw you on GMA and appreciated your concise commentaries on all the detox methods. We have already tried the Green Smoothie and are planning to incorporate it in our lives (hubby & me). By the way, we love the cilantro! ;)

Ours is pretty thick, & has seemed to oxidize overnight. Is that okay? Any TIPS?

OH! We also love they way you quickly & clearly explain WHY each of the ingredients or recipe is so good for us!!!! THX!

    • Hey Hortencia-
the Blender you use is important. Make sure you use a good one! Like the Vitamix.

To prevent as much oxidation as possible, be sure to keep in an airtight container.
      xx Kimberly

      • I just bought a Blendtec at Amazon.com – same type as used at Jamba Juice but for the home.. it works great! and is made in the USA.

  30. Kimberly, Saw you on GMA and was very interested in trying your recipe. I have tried and am very impressed with the immediate results. My question is this; can the green smoothie be taken daily along with the weekly detox smoothie?

  31. Kim, I like your green smoothie however, I have a few questions. Should I take the stems off the cilantro and parsley? I drink at least one carafe of decaf green tea daily. Will this be ok combined with your green smoothie? Im going right now to look for a Vitamix blender because I have read alot of about it. My blender is ok but doesnt make the smoothie smooth enough. Is the blender important?

    • Hey Bob,
The blender is really important! To not only make it smooth but get maximum nutrition out of the cell plant walls. I love my Vitamix.

Wait at least 20 minutes on either side of your smoothie to have all that tea. The liquid could dilute our body’s hydrochloric acid and other digestive juices- which could interfere with the nutrition absorption of the smoothie!

And don’t worry about the stems..as long as you don’t mind the taste!
      xx Kimberly

  32. I need to know if I will be embearessed in the office by uncontrollable gas and having to run not walk to the restroom way down the hall.

    • Hi Jan,
Good question! You can sip the smoothie slowly and see how you do. You do not have to shoot it down like a juice.
It should be the first food to enter you body. Bloating and gas are often caused by eating any carbs (toast, etc.) or protein (eggs) BEFORE eating fruit (and there is some in the smoothie). So be sure to not eat anything first (which is important for other reasons also!) and it should help a lot.

It general this will NOT make you have diarrhea, but I”m not sure of your dietary and health background so it is hard for me to say for you specifially. It is very cleansing, for the reasons I talk about, but this is NOT a laxative. If there are some surface toxins that your body wants to purge out initially, then you may experience more and bigger bowel movements at first, but again- this is not designed to be a drastic, “get everything out right away” plan. this is meant to ease you and your body into the plan, and continuously remove the toxins and cleanse you.

let me know how you do. Have no fear :)
      xx Kimberly

  33. Great job at the interview. I forwarded it to friends, none of whom have weight-loss needs, but are very health conscious. In that I think the abc article is not accurately titled.

    • Hi Les, thanks for forwarding it to your friends!!! The title is meant to be about what appeals the most to the most people, but you and I know it is really about health, and the weight loss is just a natural byproduct of premier health. :)

  34. Does this ever really get “smooth?” I made mine in a good food processor and while the taste is OK, the texture is a little hard to swallow…literally.

    • Hi BlueCat-
Uh uh. If you put this in a food processor it will be nasty!!!!!!!!!!! Even a crappy blender won’t work so good.

You really need a decent blender to make this. If you don’t have one, and you use a crappy one, at least put it in for a while, and it will get smooth….but warm. So be sure to make it the night before so it has time to cool for the morning!

      Keep in touch.
      xx Kimberly

  35. Kimberly, where did you study nutrition? I will be a licensed esthetician in December and would LOVE to combine my two greatest passions. I don’t have much desire to study mainstream nutrition, however, and am looking for a program with a more holistic approach. Love your blog, and your product sounds amazing!!!

    • Hi Jenny,
I wish I could recommend a good place to get your licenses, but all the places I have gotten mine were terribly rudimentary and sort of pricey. You can try the California School of Integrative Nutrition I think it’s called, to get a license (again not really recommended though!). Those are just formalities really- 99.99% of my knowledge comes directly from working with teachers here in New York and around the world- being with them, making food with them, and having many, many hours long intense conversations.
So where you live, I would seek out good, real teachers, or communities of people that are interested in the same kind of health ideas you are into, and you can share ideas!
good luck and come visit again,
      Kimberly

  36. I saw you on a portion of Good Morning America. I have one question, how long does the green smoothie last in the fridge? Can you freeze it?

    Thanks

    • HI Lynn, It keeps for 2 days, 3 days max in the fridge. If time is a major issue, you could absolutely freeze it and thaw it the night before or so. Enzymes hold up pretty good in the cold freezer (just not in the heat), so freezing is an option.
Let me know how you do and please visit again!
      xx Kimberly

  37. Kimberly- Many thanks for the great smoothie recipe! I’ve been doing all kinds of smoothies since I was in high school (many moons ago!!!), and in fact have some spectacular ones from the old Oak Street Health Bar in Laguna Beach, back in the day! I look forward to more! Aloha, Monica

  38. Thanks Marie! I haven’t heard of the Blendtec. How much does it cost?

  39. Hi Sue and Kate,
The Green Smoothie is full of alkaline minerals, phytochemicals, enzymes and vitamins. It is predigested, and goes through the body very quickly, giving nourishment and leaving very little in the way of waste residue and toxicity. I don’t count calories, fat grams, or carbs- my system is different in that I look at the quality of the food, and not just in terms of what its nutritional content is, but also and very importantly, how it interacts, affects, and digests in the body. An avocado can have 400 calories and 14 grams of fat, but be much more slimming than the bag of soy chips, with 300 calories and 5 grams of fat, because the soy chips are mucus-forming and doesn’t digest as cleanly.
So you’ll never hear me mention numbers, as I think there is a lot more too it, but rather the quality of a food’s nutrition and interaction with the body.

Let me know if you have any more questions!
    All my best,
    Kimberly
