Jed’s Deliciously Easy Watermelon Smoothie
May 16, 2008Summer is upon us, and along with it comes one of its greatest joys: the delicious, juicy watermelon! You probably don’t need me to tell you that watermelon has great cooling properties, is hydrating and is low in calories. What you might not already know is that watermelon also has amazing cleansing and detoxifying effects.
I recommend organic watermelon with seeds intact, the way nature made them. Seedless fruits are hybridized by man to make them sterile and often are also sprayed with chemicals. Sterile fruit has a lower vibration than naturally grown fruit. By eating more fertile foods, you will absorb that energy to be more fertile and magnetic yourself!
My love of smoothies is no secret, and watermelon is one of my favorite seasonal ingredients. This AMAZING smoothie makes me love watermelon even more. It tastes great and is so filling and satisfying that sometimes it even replaces a meal for me (when I’m too tired or lazy to make a salad). You can’t get any more simple than this recipe:
- 3 cups watermelon
- 2.5 cups unsweetened almond milk
Prep: Cut the watermelon into small chunks. Freeze the chunks overnight in a Tupperware container.
Simply blend the frozen watermelon and the almond milk. That’s it!!! Try it for yourself and see the magical summer treat that is created from such a simple recipe.
Let me know how you do.

Hi Kim! Just made this for the kids and myself, and we love it! I had to add a little agave as the watermelon wasn’t very sweet (for them!). I also made your israeli-inspired salad with the zucc over the weekend and it was a huge hit, can’t wait to make it again!
Hi Jane!
Wonderful! I think you will love the Papaya-Enzyme salad also!! Love, Kim
Hey Kimberly-
have you ever tried using coconut milk in place of the almond milk when making the watermelon smoothie? i am having the hardest time finding almond milk over here- even the organic market doesn’t always have it. I think i’ll give it a try! i also forgot to let you know I changed my blog name a couple of months ago. it’s not longer road to abu dhabi- it’s now

HI love!
I will check out the new site!!!!!!
If you have access to almonds you can easily make your own almond milk. Depending on how thick the coconut milk is you get over there, I would try diluting it a bit first. It could work! Let me know how it goes.
Love, Kimberly
Can you use Rice milk in place of the Almond milk?
Love your blog!
O FRICKIN MG! I MUST TRY THIS LOL
Hi Kim!
I have Jennifer Aniston (I’ve admired her for years!) and OK Magazine to thank for my finding you. I’m very interested in incorporating more raw foods in my diet because I want to be as healthy as possible and I have just been recently diagnosed with acid-reflux. I’m suffering from a terrible soar throat, cough, and my sinuses have acted up. I’ve recently tried your green smoothie which is delicious, but I don’t have the right blender. I definitely want to invest so could you help me understand what blender you use? Or could you recommend one to me. I am definitely interested in incorporating more and more of your recipes. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks so much
Hi Kim,
I tried this smoothie this morning and it was awesome! All I had was Vanilla Almond milk instead of regular and although it may be sweetened it was still pretty good, better than Jamba Juice in my opinion. Can’t wait to try your green smoothie too! Thanks and keep those fantastic recipes coming!

Great! And Jamba juice is definitely NOT recommended!!!!!!!

I had recently read that the glycemic index of a watermelon is unhealthy and too high, true? false?
We don’t want to eat ALL foods that are high on the GI index, but it is not the only primary determining factor of whether we should eat a food or not. For instance, fiber and vitamin/mineral content is important! If you eat watermelon alone it will digest well- and give us lots of nutrients. xx Kimberly
I read one place that you shouldn’t mix melon with greens, but then I’ve also heard that greens combine well with everything…I’m asking because I am craving watermelon (once the season starts) and I think it would be good in a smoothie with some mild green…Good or bad idea?
No love! Don’t mix the melon with anything else.
I’ve been making and loving this smoothie since I stumbled on it a few months ago. This morning I made for several coworkers, it’s a hit!

Thank you,
Jami

Kim, I love your blog and the partner yoga video! So beautiful to see…I can’t wait to be in a class with you again. I was wondering, do you have a raw pizza recipe or a recipe that creates a “pizza-like” food? I have a thing for pizza, but I want to cut out the cheese-filled, greesy component (b/c I usually feel weighed down by it afterward). Om Shanti, thanks for all you give.
